Time to take your CD (Compact Disc) collection back off the shelf. Meet the Luxman D-03R CD player and DAC (digital-to-analog converter), a next-generation model that takes the beloved D-03X and advances it in every way. With major design and engineering upgrades, the D-03R is built for uncompromising performance.
What's new
Start with the conversion. Dual ROHM BD34352EKV DAC chips, running in dual-mono mode, replace the D-03X's Texas Instruments PCM1795 and deliver superior resolution and musicality.
The CD mechanism now sits on a 3.2mm-thick steel mounting base, in place of the D-03X's aluminum, inside a rigid box structure that reduces vibration for higher reading accuracy.
A fully balanced output amplifier with differential I/V (current-to-voltage) conversion makes for cleaner, more dynamic sound. And the high-capacity block capacitors in the DAC power supply have doubled, from 3,300µF to 6,600µF, improving drive and stability.
The chassis is a composite, shielded design with optimized weight balance and its noise sources kept apart. Up front, a high-resolution OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display with a zoom mode and dimmer makes everything easier to read from the listening seat.
Also a standalone DAC
The D-03R also works as a standalone DAC. Its USB (Universal Serial Bus) input accepts PCM (pulse-code modulation) up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD (Direct Stream Digital) up to 22.5MHz, so it can anchor a streaming system as well as play your discs.
The D-03R brings Luxman's upmarket quality and performance to a lower price point.
