Goldmund was founded in Geneva in 1978. It takes its name from Hermann Hesse's novel Narcissus and Goldmund, in which one character stands for intellect and the other for emotion, and the company sees its work as joining the two.

Its first product was the Reference turntable. In The Absolute Sound, Alan Taffel describes it as “revolutionary (and revolutionarily expensive)”, a design that brought a new level of materials science and isolation to record playback. Goldmund went on to pioneer ideas such as mechanical grounding and megahertz-bandwidth amplification, which Taffel says “are now considered table stakes at the top of today's high end.”

In November 2023, Goldmund named Rhythm its exclusive distributor for North America, with the partnership beginning in January 2024. That puts Goldmund's Swiss-made amplifiers and loudspeakers within reach of listeners across the continent.

“Our products embody the union of luxury and lifestyle, where technology becomes art,” said Yohann Segala, Goldmund's chief executive at the time. “We are excited to bring this vision to more homes.”

For us, the fit was about how people live with music. We recognize the artistic and cultural role that audio plays in people's lives, and we are delighted to be chosen as Goldmund's exclusive distributor for North America.
