I've never heard physically large loudspeakers sonically disappear until I experienced Marten. It's a moment I'll never forget, and quite possibly the first time I felt only music and not sound from a loudspeaker.
Marten builds its loudspeakers in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1998, Leif Olofsson left his job as a kitchen designer to build Mingus, Marten's first production speaker, and he has designed every Marten since. He owns the company with his brothers, Jörgen and Lars. Every speaker is built by hand in Marten's workshop, one pair at a time, and the company's recording studio sits inside its largest listening room.
In May 2024, Marten unveiled the Coltrane Quintet at High End Munich. It is a four-way design with a custom pure diamond tweeter, a pure beryllium high-midrange driver, a new convex carbon-fibre mid-bass driver and aluminium sandwich bass drivers, all joined by Marten's signature first-order crossover in a carbon-fibre cabinet with Jorma internal cabling. Christiaan Punter of HiFi-Advice heard it there and wrote, “this was the best sound I have heard from a Marten room in Munich!”
That September, Marten named Rhythm its exclusive distributor in the United States. “Our sound is unlike typical high-end loudspeakers, and we have a unique story to tell,” said Leif Olofsson.
